Wilma Unlimited - Kids Story - written by Kashvi

The doctors said that she would never walk again. This was an important and powerful part of the story Wilma Unlimited. A little girl named Wilma was born in the south when segregation was still here. Wilma was a little but she never gave up and had persistence. Read on to find more about how Wilma fought for her life.

Wilma Rudolph fought her whole life. When Wilma was born she was small but she always was sick, and have several brother and sisters. Even if one of Wilma’s siblings were sick she would get twice as sick as her siblings. When Wilma was 5 she was sicker then ever, Wilma twisted her ankle. Wilma had the scarlet fever, she also suffered from double the pneumonia, and worst of all Wilma had polio. These sickness make me think that all the sickness she got made everything even worse. This is when the doctors said that Wilma would never walk again. This makes me realize that life for Wilma would be really hard. Also the school’s would not even let her attend because of her twisted ankle. There was also segregation at the time so Wilma could not go to any white school. Wilma’s classmates would often even tease her. This makes me realize that Wilma is not happy with her twisted ankle. You can now see that Wilma went through a lot in her life.

Secondly, Wilma has also showed lot’s of persistence throughout the story. Wilma often took the bus and waited patiently on the back of the bus, Wilma also had to go 50 miles going and back on a bus to get to the hospital. Wilma had to go to a hospital that only treated black people. Wilma also worked so hard at her exercise that the doctors said it was time for her to have a steel brace on her twisted leg. Wilma then went to school and studied the other kids play basketball for hours, Wilma memorized there moves, watching the ball zoom. Then one Sunday when she went to church and waited for everyone to got in and then took of her steel brace and walked slowly into the church, Then when Wilma went in the church everyone was proud and surprised the she could walk again!  Wilma then practiced walking more often then after she could walk perfectly she mailed her steel brace back to the hospital. Wilma then joined basketball and she the lead her team to victory and went to the championships. Wilma then joined the track and Wilma won lot’s of first place golden metals and then Wilma went to the championships of track, but when she got there she twisted her ankle but she still showed persistence all the way, and won the championships. This makes me think that Wilma showed persistence as much as she could for her life. This shows that Wilma worked so hard.
